Our Purpose

Ride for Recovery

At the core of Ride 4 Life's initiatives is a dedication to breaking down barriers to treatment, ensuring that financial constraints do not impede those in need from accessing the critical support required for recovery. Through strategic partnerships with treatment centers, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders, Ride 4 Life has successfully created a network that extends a lifeline to individuals seeking a path towards sobriety. By championing the cause of addiction recovery, the organization plays a pivotal role in promoting mental and physical well-being, fostering a healthier and more resilient society.

THE RIDE

The Ride 4 Life team will cycle over 198 miles/320 kilometers in two days over the mountains of the Sierra Madres in Durango and Sinaloa, Mexico. The average elevation of the ride is 6,000 ft. and peaks up to 9,000 feet above sea level beginning in Durango, Mexico and ends in Mazatlan. “La Ruta” also known as the “Sierra-Pacific Challenge” is known as one of the most challenging endurance events in the world.

John Stippick

Project Leader & Rider

John has been in recovery for over 30 years and strives to "give back" to those in need. Driven by a passion to help others, John leads the Ride 4 Life Team toward an unprecedented challenge that inspires and challenges everyone to make a difference.

Braden Salat

Ride 4 Life Cyclist

Braden is one of our newer cyclist and our youngest rider. His enthusiasm for recovery and his determination to help others is making a huge difference in his training and preparation.

Maria Herrera Ruiz

Team Secretary & Rider

Maria, a dual citizen of both the United States and Mexico, has completed the Sierra Madre Challenge 8 times. Additionally, Maria believes that when you can help others, it is time to rise up and support those in need.

Jeff Brown is a cyclist, professor, dog owner, and car restoration specialist. With a diverse set of talents, Jeff brings a spirit of enthusiasm and determination to complete "La Ruta". (Plus, all the riders get free Spanish lessons, too!)

With over nine years of recovery experience, Matt is an avid supporter for projects and services that contribute to those in need of support. Matt recently began cycling and is taking on this project not only as a personal challenge but as an opportunity to help those in need.

Kalley Hartman is new cyclist with a spirit of adventure and determination. Kalley brings a sincere devotion to helping others. Kalley is also a therapist in the substance abuse field for over 7 years.

Ashland House Woman's Shelter

Ashland House

The purpose of the Ashland Home is to provide a safe and caring environment for women to get sober with dignity and build a foundation for recovery. We strive to be a model for alcoholic women to get and stay sober and lead happy productive lives, where they are reunited with their families, involved in their communities and giving back what was given to them.

Brother Benno's

Brother Benno’s serves homeless neighbors, working poor and seniors in North County San Diego by providing meals, basic needs, community outreach and addiction recovery services. The Brother Benno Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is qualified to receive tax-deductible donations.

Charle Street

‘Charle Street’ is a short-term residential facility providing caring support, room, board, toiletries and clothing for up to twenty-one recovering alcoholics. It is the only facility of its kind in Orange County that offers this scope of assistance free of charge to the men it serves. ‘Charle Street’ is managed by an all-volunteer committee of sober, kind and devoted men. The majority of these Committeemen are former residents; now active and productive members of the community they gratefully give back to.

First Step House

To help indigent and all alcoholic men make a new beginning in sobriety.
At the First Step House we are a group of volunteers committed to providing a new beginning in sobriety for indigent and all alcoholic men.
Providing a safe, supportive home for men who have nowhere else to go.

Barry L. Caldwell is a director and producer, known for Emancipation (2022), Beautiful Boy (2018) and The Lincoln Lawyer (2022), and Queen of the South (2016-2021)

Tim began filming and acting in 2005 and became a full time cinematographer in 2017. Tim’s passion has been to create and film an outdoor adventure documentary so for him Ride 4 Life embodies the opportunity to use all of his skills and passions on the Ride 4 Life Project.
